If I Were a Girl...

If I Were a Girl...

A Poem by Steven Cash
"

I feel this is like a cross between Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy" and Bruno Mars "Just the Way You Are".

"

If I were a girl, I’d love myself, despite what the guys may say

I would look in the mirror and see myself"beautiful in my own way

If I were a girl I’d not live and die by the love of a guy

If he can’t love me for who I am, then sorry, it’s goodbye

If I were a girl I’d take my hair and style it as I choose

It doesn’t have to be long and flowing, like women in the news

If I were a girl I’d know my clothes don’t have to come from Abbie and Fitch

I don’t have to be with the in crowd, who’d leave me in a ditch

If I were a girl I’d not sell myself cheap just cause a guy says I’m cute

And if he only wants sex from me, I’d simply give him the boot

If I were a girl I’d show the world I don’t have to be rail thin

I don’t have to heave my lunch so I can just fit in

But because I’m not a girl I can only tell you how I feel as a guy

Cause girls, you are precious. Don’t ever think that’s a lie

I don’t care how you look, what you have done or do

            I believe you are precious

            Just because you are you

Thanks Tomi, glad you liked it!
i enjoy this--- how you can vicariously see most girls' insecurities through this poem. Takes real talent to view things from another perspective. But what was really great was how you brought up the insecurities and then refuted them to show that girls just have to be themselves. really liked this poem and its message. thank you :)

I think you did a good job. You are letting the world know, even guys can empathize. great piece.

Thank you so much, man!
This is nice, but It doesn't flow together like some of your other work does. This is not to say it is bad by any means, but the simple rhyme scheme takes away from the piece.

If I was a girl I'd bully you until you insulted me in some form, for example "an ugly...". Then I'd call you a hypocrite.

Although, if I was a girl and I wanted to do that, I'd probably have to be both stupid and unpleasant. So I'd call you a "hypogriff", or something similar. Not knowing no vocabulary is difficult.

Yeah, I like it. Of course you're obviously not a girl, so you don't know...but at least you have some empathy.
