here is a leaf:

end of autumn, in all its forms

maroon, and mottled.

stem worn thin.

beyond congealed.

         it rattles dry

         and stiff.

 

its photoplastic altitude;

its pellicle, and brume

have burned their steam.

         or stormed out

         into wind-knows-where

 

and isn’t it just so...

a little piece

falls in the sock:

         You turn It inside out

         then shake

I really like the smile the last line gave me here, taking me back to the long, long ago, when I was always distracted in class by all the bits of leaves sticking to my socks, after kixking a path through them.
And now that I think about it, I was always distracted by the changing seasons, but autumn has a reflective, contemplative feel to it like no other. We measure the time passing in our lives, as well as thoae around us. Along with the smell of coffee, autums leaf confetti is one of the strongest images in my mind, where we can reflect on answering questions about our own path in life, and can make us reflect on flaws that we can work on
Very evocative piece here, expertly viewed and contemplated, that little leaf that captured your imagination so well.

just like we shake and the memories of a loved one lost come...

and this reminds me also of how we take others for granted...but when they are in the autumn of their lives, we start noticing.
