Gratitude

A Poem by C. Lee Battaglia

Gratitude

C. Lee Battaglia

I get bullied
I get yelled at
I get upset
I get lonely

I'm wrong most of the time,
But that's why I'm writing this poem,
The words you speak and say,
Have taught me a valuable lesson,

That when people shout
And call you awful names,
I feel a sense of gratitude.
Because I know that I'll never be like them.

Show gratitude to the people who help you up,
Who smile at you,
The ones that say that they believe in you.
And then show gratitude for them.

That is a really strong poem. With such simple words used throughout the poem, the meaning was very strong. I enjoyed reading it!

I am sorry I am a month late to reply to your inbox and read this poem! i have been caught up in life's events.

I liked how in the poem a negative became a positive, but I also just like the way you handled the situation. Or (not you maybe, but the speaker or voice of the poem). Very true and gives people a valuable lessonright back! Taking those words and realizing that that's now who a person should be or wants to be, they want to be a better person.

I liked the simple sentences, not too many words, not too many paragraphs to understand the obvious meaning behind it.

I did have a question about punctuation? is there a reason you didnt' want to have punctuation at all at the beginning? Was it for the effect of it? Or that is your stylistic choice? (I like using no punctuation as a stylistic choice), so I am just curious to see!
