Emerge.

Emerge.

A Poem by M. M. Lovar

You’re the beast that lurks,

trying to hide your large frame behind the shadow of my nightmares.

Empty eyes proving worthy of withholding an immense psyche.

Quietly, knowing exactly how you’ve drained me.

I know where you’ve always been.

The skin on my neck tells tales of your long grunts.

The warmth of your breath never seems to leave,

a prickling pain that I cannot seem to relieve.

You’re that deep whisper,

resonating inside my mind, telling me to complete your bidding,

binding me to the earth in mortification.

There’s a scratch in your lurid façade.

I pull with trembling fingers to tear back the dark.

You’ve hidden my light for too long.

I breathe my first breath, as I wake.

You will no longer be my predator,

I will no longer be your prey.
