Flaming Cross

Flaming Cross

A Poem by masie
"

A few years ago ... someone burned a cross and it really affected me and scared me and this is all i could think of to do about it to ease my mind ...

"

Something's happened

Something old

Something came back

It;s the sign of the cold

Burning fire

Flaming cross

Prejudice and hatred

All in the sacred cross

Old traditions

Bad past

Flaming history

Conditions crash

Community's shaken

Children cry

We take action

And call in the FBI

Durham takes a hard hit

With this situation

The whole city fights back

And constricts this old resurrection

The tradition stops here

No further it shall go

The crisis and the scare

Go out with a blow.

Nicely worded and written as a whole.

The planned message was good but not imparted as hoped. The form is good and choice of words fits well.

I wish that there were less abstract words like "prejudice" and "hatred" and "community" -- which are all so subjective and really bring nothing vivid into my mind -- and more description of the actual burning cross. Even the thought of a burning cross haunted me a bit, but you didn't describe it well enough for me to have any lasting image of it.
