Mexican American

Mexican American

A Poem by Cheyanna

I am Mexican American
But somehow,
I feel that I don't belong to either

My light complexion
My "white" sounding voice
My music choices
My lack of spanish fluency
To others, I am not Mexican

My non-white skin
My slight accent
My embracement of my culture
My dark hair and eyes
To others, I am not white

I am the product of a mixing pot
From two separate worlds
And though that should mean I fit into every category
I've never felt so isolated

this is a really powerful poem, I really enjoyed it and I think that it touches upon a very important thing that a lot of people are conflicted over. I liked the contrast from one stanza to the next, touching on the same things, explaining why some people feel this way. I especially like the last stanza. I think that you truly have talent.
