My Own Decay

My Own Decay

A poem about escaping.

My Own Decay

The art of losing yourself I think I've mastered,

every day I feel further and further away.

My thoughts, my actions, my satisfactions

and my reactions are further off the bay.

In the wind I can smell the coconut oil and

when I close my eyes, I hear the palms sway.

I'm running farther and farther from my roots,

how far will I run to avoid my own decay?

Author's Note

Marie Harrison
I'm changing so much everday. Sometimes I don't even recognize who I am anymore. Change is good, but sometimes I feel as if I've lost myself. I wonder if others feel that way too sometimes.

I certainly feel the same. At times I will wonder who I am and what my purpose is, while other times I will know what I am, who I am and what I want to do.

I enjoyed reading this poem and epseciaslly liked the way you allowed each of he second lines to rhyme thruout the poem. Bravo :)

Change is a part of life, sometimes we find ourselves with it, and sometimes we lose ourselves. I feel I have lost more than I have gained from the changes so far in my life, but I hope to one day find out what kind of change will work for me.

Great Write once again!
