Venus

Venus

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A poem about the Goddess Venus

"

Venus

Moonbeams form a halo

Around your head.

Fairies dance and

Twirl in circles

Surrounding

Your bed.

Lilies grown

In your garden

Down below.

Crystal clear

Mountain water

Showers them

At night.

Long golden silk

Is your flaxen hair.

Your magical curves

Are a fantasy to see.

A very sensuous, and somewhat erotic portrait of the idealised image of Venus. The imagery perfectly parallels the feeling and depiction of this Goddess, and one thinks of her dreamily through these descriptions, conjuring an ethereal scene of the angelic and elemental purity of her bedchamber. There is an ambiguous nature to the second stanza, I think, which has flexible connotations (!) but it balances the poem nicely. The final verse encapsulates the entire image satisfyingly, epitomising the poem's erotic/sensual pull of gravity.

Ah what a lovely description of Venus and her charming qualities. I don't think I've ever heard a more beguiling ode to the beauty and glory of Pisces ruling planet. This a beautiful write with a nice rhythm and a musically sensual allure. This is spot on and makes my heart pitter patter.
