These things I love

These things I love

A Poem by Clare Ashbury

Morning dew the world anew

Sunrise of pink and light blue

Sunlight escape through the willow trees weeping leaves

Deer grazing upon the fields

Squirrel tails

Crow morning calls

The first morning stretch

Tired sleepy eyes

Tea leaves float, tea steam in the air

Cat purrs and meows

Sunshine pouring through a room

Naked skin in the morning light

Heartbeats of another

Cuddling and heart felt kisses

Morning tired smiles

A pen in hand, writing for hours

A new found story, character, creation

Filling pages with words

My many handwritings

Mood swings from naughty and nice

My flaws and shadows

Eyes that grab you inside a dark abyss

Memories of happy times

Childhood rhymes

Things I miss

Music with lyrics that stick

Woodstock of 1969

My Grandmother’s old stories I’ve memorized

Phone calls that last for hours

Meeting someone new

Friendships that will always stand

Late night hang outs for no reason

My smile

My lips

My ears although small just fit

Late nights just alone in thought

Being different

My voice because I know it’s cute

Dragonflies, bumble bees, and butterflies

The salty sea

Fields of wildflowers surrounding me

Fantasies, dreams, and wishes

Forehead kisses

Early dismissals

My mothers face and personality I so gracelessly inherited

My fathers laugh

My brothers shy nature

Being born in February

The number 6 and 143

My baby pictures and video scenes

Attention when least expected

Libraries with no fee’s

Book shopping with a pocket full of gold

Singing in the shower at the top of my lungs

Dancing in a towel or jeans and a bra

Loving my body as I look in the mirror

My grandfather may he rest in peace

My grandmother when I am the only one to make her smile

My favorite aunts and uncles

Always knowing my family accepts me and will love me no matter what

The word “interesting” and “flabbergasted”

Silence when I need it most

Butterflies flying deep inside my tummy

My last name, no one will ever take away

My name Clare without the “i” even though it sounds too soft

Rose lilies as they open from their closed buds

Accents that turn me on

Life stories

Trust

Love that one day will come

Future dreams, and possibilities

My name one day in gold letter as the author

My life as it proceeds, surprises at every turn

Everything that makes me

And best of all my writing and creativity

These are just some of the things I love

So hugs and kisses

Sunsets of purple and gold

Rain storms to fall asleep comfortable and warm.
