The Sorrel

The Sorrel

A Poem by lee von cleef
"

Thank you Diego, "Two Quarters Spinning in the Sun"

"
No one was there
The air was crisp,
Lanky long strides, crisp to match the air,
Cheeked in tight with my left hand,
From the ground to the stirrup,
Stretched me, leaving little room for the ball of my foot to give much bounce,
I thought up, moved up and with,
Blending into the horse,
Settling together,
Then the light,

Dust, mud on my tongue.
Blood on my palate.

Cowboy Round Corral Recognition.

A empty time gap greeted me.

A known feeling.

One I had left in my youth
returned.

Truth will set us all Spinning in the Sun.

This is one of those amazing piece of writing, that I can't logically follow it, but my emotions are invoked and the heart gets hit with a sense of pain and joy coupled together. Yet, I can't say what it was about the poem that cause the effect. I know that this was a connection between a horse and man and time itself, but that was all I could see visually. The feeling it left was good though...even though I don't know where it came from. I suppose that means it is really well penned. Great Ink!

Diegos 2 quarters.... knew the ending reminded me of something...
My dad dancing on some invisible strings of a marionette with bucket spilling sweet feed enticing lady back into the pen while my mom laughed her butt off at his expense..
.trying to gain some saddle time to impress local rodeo legend jim enough to let me keep lady there where it was safe and my mother's laughter in aimed at healing my fathers pain.

and so goes life... our youth spinning...round and round. The truth is not always pretty, in can be damn gritty. The imagery of dust, mud, and blood on the tongue leaves a bittersweet aftertaste. A Great write.

I can imagine all boys go through that
I found this interesting as I finally gave in to the urge and bought my first horse since my teen years. Not a sorrel, but a blue and white pintaloosa and yes the last bit is so true! "One I had left in my youth returned."
