Today the Bird Ate the Cat

Today the Bird Ate the Cat

A Poem by Invisible Ink
"

In a world turned upside down

"

Today the bird ate the cat.

First the head led,

then body, and that was that.

Today the rain flew upwards

into the sky, left the land dry,

heavens were flooded by and by.

Last night the moon howled at the dog

from beneath, it bared its teeth

and the frightened dog fled.

Last night the dead buried their living

into the ground, without a sound

they whispered a blessing.

I don't know what to say but wow. Thanks, this one was a pleasant surprise. I placed a poem in the same contest as this one and now I'm not so sure about winning. =)

This left me wondering and sort of out of it. It was clever and it was dark, two things that I love!

Great write!

Wow. I have no idea why but I am reminded of W. H. Auden's, The Funeral Blues. I liked this very much. Thank you for sharing it.
