Where Am I

Where Am I

A Poem by Barry S. Maltese

Where are you? You gently inquire

. . . Some voice an opinion filled with ire.

For after disappointment - I just disappeared

abandoning those who were endeared

But few ask about me, and why I left

or care about the pain suffered from the theft

I lost my soul which was supposed to be secure

a deepened trust that could not endure

So how do I return to the scene of the crime?

how do I offer up one more rhyme?

I still nurse a wound that bleeds my feelings

caused by mistrust, and a few mis-dealings

So I am unsure if I'll return

maybe this remains a lesson to learn

But is it a lesson in how to live?

or one designed to teach me how to forgive?!

Wow-this piece is very thought provoking and asks a powerful question, one we have all had to ask if we see it...

But is it a lesson in how to live?

or one designed to teach me how to forgive?!

When we are wounded by another, the intensity of the wound often tells the tale. For some, forgiveness is a cinch. For others, it takes a whole lot of soul searching and coming to the realization that "Unforgiveness really only hurts us." While the person that wounded us is getting off scott free, we will eventually rot away in that pool of bitterness and resentment. Sad, but true. As much as we try to hide under the mask of a hard heart, it seeps out bit by bit in other ways.

Very thought provoking, Barry. Thanks for sharing this one. A true treasure!

Blessings, Carole

Man, it is so hard for us to forgive any wrongdoings, and often times it's us suffering because we hold onto those pains...

Forgiveness is the act of pardoning somebody for a mistake or wrongdoing. It is probably the hardest thing we are challenged to do. The sentiments of your write ring clear and can be related too by many, including myself. However, they poignantly remind me of this passage;

Matthew 26:28 (New International Version)

28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

A fresh start is sometimes a blessing in disguise!

Hello BArry,

this was oh..wonderful. A perfect poem about the question how one feels, seeking for an answer when we are solving a difficult question. I truly loved this poem for it is giving me space for more imaginery than it is written inside, giving space for even more worlds and emotions from loneliness to hesitation and from betrayal even... that what I read there ....to loyality.... and is still delightfully tender your sweet new poem ! Barry, I so missed you. Talk to me soon, my friend.
