Our Buxom King

Our Buxom King

A Poem by Priya

You might have heard, and this is true,

The King's a queen, a vixen too!

He loves to dress up on his own

And flaunt his curves upon his throne.

No manly man's as man as he,

Voluptuous in his red saree;

He makes us weak upon our knees

And makes us dance to his decrees.

Now rumour has it that a prince

Beyond the majesty's province

Has uttered many sweet nothings

In love with our sweet buxom king.

"But what of our dear kingdom Sir?",

The Priests are said to have demurred,

"The prince provides you love and care,

But every kingdom needs an heir!"

The king replied "Oh let it be!

I'll raise a child like born from me.

Then dress me up in purple hues

And call it my post partum blues!"

The priests had nothing more to say,

They pecked his lips upon their way;

They might have said something that hurt

But all desired to get into his skirt.

This is f*****g great. It's so deceptively innocent, in that the way you stick so well to the cadence and the rhyme scheme almost makes it seem like a children's poem. Very funny stuff.
A note on the subject matter- I'm male, and I'm not gay, but transsexuality has always interested me for some reason. I just think that the switching of one's gender is a fascinating choice. I would never do that to myself, but if others want to change themselves like that, who am I to judge? Also, I love how nervous people get whenever such a subject is brought up. One of my favorite pastimes is making squeamish people uncomfortable, and homophobes are some of the most squeamish people you're likely to find.
In short, I loved this piece. Bravo.

A good solution from the king to just get on with the job himself, no one else need get involved, well no one of any notoriety anyway. I,love poetry when its used in this way to propagate such twisted absurdities.

That was darn funny and witty... just as anything it is not what is on the outside that counts it is what is on the inside... as long as someone takes care of their responsibilities and obligations who cares what they wear.

I've never read a poem such as this one, but it's good to laugh at the absurdity of trying to classify people as fully male or female. Everyone has mixed traits. In the animal world, there are at least a hundred species who have mixed traits. You have some well written couplets here. Evolution requires diversity for it to function. We never know which traits will help our species survive in the future.

wow this poem slaps us in the face, in a good way...i like the humorous tone used to present a real issue..how people who are a bit different are so harshly regarded and treated as if they weren't really like the rest of us...
we are all the same inside...we are all people.

actually i like the ending...i feel it doesn't linger...just snaps the poem shut..leaving us with a smile...but also the pondering of what that lies line says...about wishing they could all dare to be what this person has the guts to be.

Not bad. Doesn't take itself very seriously, which is nice, and the tone and flow are both appealing. I think the ending could have been a bit less abrupt, but that's a minor issue. Good work.

Thank you ^_^ I'll try and see what I can do to tinker with the ending.
