Battling Angst

Battling Angst

A Poem by Phillip Francis
"

I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I decided to to right a short piece during a recent panic attack.

"
Anarchy reeks havoc inside my soul.
Once steady hands tremble beyond control.
My chest aches, sensibility is extinct.
Body and mind argue, no longer linked.
Throat begins to close, difficult to inhale.
Forehead dripping sweat, my skin has turned pale.
Dread conquers intellect.
Confidence has been wrecked.
Attempt to regulate your mind.
Not an easy procedure, just a never ending grind.
"This is not real" I plead with my brain.
"Take a deep breath, you're not going insane."
Now it's time to change the course.
To rid yourself of this feeling, you need to find the source.
Settle down and count to three.
Repeat these words, "Relaxation is the key."

I understand this, and once suffered from terrible anxiety. What helped me was meditation and, frankly, letting go. Your amygdala is hypersensitive and needs to be reset.
That being said, wonderful poem. Again you use rhymes well, better than most, nly here and there lapsing into cliche that distorts the impact. (aka brain/insane)
oh and the second line does not need that internal comma.
