Distress

Distress

A Poem by -47-

If the hill has eyes,
does the tree have ears?
Can it hear me cry out as I walk?
Does the wind whisper to it?
If the tree has ears,
will it understand?
Can it feel emotion,
can it question?
Can the tree love?
Do the birds speak to it,
make small talk in exchange for shelter?
Are they kind?
Is the tree tormented,
hearing such kind words,
feeling such happiness,
with no way of returning the feeling of joy?
If the tree spoke,
would it feel better?
If the tree understood,
would I feel better?
If the tree heard,
would it listen?
