No Lyrics Left Unsung

I have traversed universes that I hope you never have to know

Whole worlds of burning brimstone and frozen coves

But I've escaped Destruction's everglades and have found Bliss's cascades

Now like a Monarch Butterfly I shall fly away

Today I've spoken with Fate, and this is what he has to say

"We are all nothing more than what we make"

So here I stand, unafraid, able to hear the song of the mermaids

For the first time, echoing across these amber plains

Forgive me, those I love, for all of the damage I've done

For all of the flawed drawings I have made over the eons

No more will I come undone or let my dreams fall into Elysium

I promise that from now on there will be no lyrics left unsung

Under a sky of falling satellites, I clutched a heart beaten by meteorites

Writing meaningless rhymes as the night played Luna's lullaby

But I have realized that I'm a pencil outline on time

So today I ride the chariot of life into the sunshine

Today I've spoken with Fate, and this is what he has to say

"Don't worry, you have not a reason to be ashamed"

Today I howl with the white wolves, soar with the Hummingbirds

Away from the molten lava lakes of this Earth

Forgive me, those I love, for all of the damage I've done

For all of the flawed drawings I have made over the eons

No more will I come undone or let my dreams fall into Elysium

I promise that from now on there will be no lyrics left unsung

I've left the realm of silhouettes, the valley of string-less marionettes

Watch me run my hands through the golden sand

Broken I'll never be again, watch as I bury this solar eclipse

Today I sing a thousand hymns and let the light in

As one story ends another begins

Forgive me, those I love, for all of the damage I've done

For all of the flawed drawings I have made over the eons

No more will I come undone or let my dreams fall into Elysium

I promise that from now on there will be no lyrics left unsung

This is my chance, I'm alive at last

Author's Note

DoormanDan
So my drive to write songs finally came back to me, and boy did I enjoy writing this one! I noticed that a lot of my songs and poems lately have been dark, sad and gloomy, so I decided that I needed to write another uplifting song. I seriously do hope that this does help anybody who is feeling depressed. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! :)

This writing is soo uplifting! The imagery is clear and beautiful and bright and sings... and touches my heart. A tear falling now as I reflect on what was said, but smiling and feeling the ride of discovery and breaking through all the while as I read.

This is the type of poetry I love. The kind that takes me somewhere and shows me ways of seeing I haven't discovered on my own. I love the way you've spun this tale, written these words side by side to make an emotion rise and drift.

This is the only poem of yours that I've read, so far. After reading your Author's Note, I'm sorry to hear that you have been in a struggle with the darker side of things, as well. Maybe it's all part of one play. Maybe it takes all of these different and divergent pieces to puzzle together a life. I don't know. I'm certainly no prophet or wizard.

But, I do know that I loved this writing and it has made me smile and raised joy to soar inside me in colors and shapes, and made me think of far-away places and mysteries yet undiscovered.

It's my true belief that only those with a specially talent, a certain kind of magic can affect the hearts of others with their art. As I read the words to your song, I could almost hear the music.

Thank you for sharing yours with me.

I love how you can write a song about depression but never use the word depression in the song. There are so many metaphors that clearly indicate the intention of the song, and that I think is what makes your writing so special.
You hit the spot well on it being uplifting! Sometimes we all need to listen to a song of confidence to get a through the day, or in this case read one! :)

The imagery was probably my favorite part of writing this song. I'm glad you like it :)
There are so many levels in this poem that I like. First I like some of the unique end rhymes-simply brilliant shows great skill. Next I love the rich hues and vivid metaphors. Lastly I love the message and reptetion of the title. Fantastic job....

Hey, Dan! I've missed you!
I do agree that your recent ones have been dark,
But this one was so happy!
Depression is hard to overcome,
And it really hurts sometimes.
None of us are alone though..
How could we be when we have friends like you?

Wonderful song, Dan!
I'm glad your writer's block ended :)

You sound like such a nice person! I like this poem/song. The layout and different fonts/colors adds to the overall feeling. My only suggestion is to be careful with such lines as mermaids songs echoing across the amber plains -- are mermaids on plains? Or are they echoing from the distant sea, curling like waves engulfing the amber plains?
