Building a Castle

Building a Castle

A Poem by Dani Eiri

You live on an island

I live in dead man’s land

Oceans are barriers

Of space not growing fair

We grab a boat or two

Pushing through the blue

Searching for an island

Or perhaps dead man’s land

With our traveling troupe

And our cans of soup

We reach shores forbidden

But our love not ridden

Shovel and pail in hand

We dig about in sand

Just you and me

With the same destiny

The crews have given way

Our hearts not in dismay

We work our bodies weak

Oh how the work was bleak

Finishing our long task

We pull out our rich flask

Covered in found treasure

We will last forever

Wealth and contentment are every bit worth

Our bloody hands and sweaty faces
