A Rose Among The Thorns

A Rose Among The Thorns

A Poem by Danny K.

A good thorn hones well and will protect the rose.

He will look and point outward, being ever watchful.

He will give his life so that the flower may live.

Danger will be thwarted.

A bad thorn will only look out for himself.

He will aid the enemy; he is the enemy.

He will turn inward to choke her,

And laugh as her life ebbs away.

Many did so and brought to her harm.

The enemy’s battles came, and she fought just to live.

Her stem was broken, and her petals touched the ground.

With a dying breath she called to You.

You were there and she heard Your voice.

And from the rogues You took her.

You rebuilt her, planted and watched her grow again.

You saw Your work, and she has flourished.

There is a good thorn that will protect the rose,

Who’ll gladly look up and serve the flower.

For without her, his own life holds no meaning.

Surely, You won’t forbid him forever.

Let Your rain and soil nurture us.

Let Your sunlight warm and fill us,

Making us strong and beautiful.

In our lives, may we always remember You.

And when the flower’s life must fade,

Let the thorn grow dull as well.

When you pluck the rose to adore her,

Lovingly touch the thorn and smile.

Know that he protected what was Yours

Until his own last dying breath.

Look well upon him, for he knows

You loved her first.
