Replace My Broken Heart

Replace My Broken Heart

A Poem by darkknightN

I knew her since we were small,

Times were simple, as I recall.

On the playground at recess,

We played in the dirt and made a mess.

I never thought of her as a gal,

She was always just my pal.

In middle school we stayed best friends,

Saying we’d never part until the end.

It was me, who always looked after her,

When someone wanted a fight to stir.

It wasn’t until the end of eighth grade,

When I realized feelings had been made.

Our freshman year had come and gone,

And I didn’t tell her because she met John.

The years passed by and I so felt jaded,

Because my feelings for her never faded.

We still hung out, but I was the third-wheel,

I just wanted her to know my feelings were real.

It was senior year, after gym class,

When I saw you lying on the grass.

You hopped up when I passed by,

And talked to me, I didn’t know why.

I was always wary of becoming your friend,

But a helpful heart, you did lend.

You forced your way into my days,

I loved your company, in so many ways.

You told me of your feelings for me,

I didn’t know it, but I was finally free.

I forgot the name of ol’ what’s-her-face,

My broken heart you did replace.

I love you more than I can say,

It’s not some game I have to play.

The ring was very expensive,

My work for it was extensive.

Our love is real and it is strong,

For your hand, I do long.

There is no price I wouldn’t pay,

To see your face light up the day.

Please except this gift from me,

As I happily get down on one knee.

I love you true, I love you good,

You’re the only one I would.

I kind of forced this one...so the rhymes might not be that great and the flow is a little off.

the flow IS a little off...but it's still good. I like the story behind it.

About
As a little boy, I used to always play pretend: slaying dragons, rescuing princesses, becoming a Nascar racer. My mom always said I was creative. Until I'd accidentally break a piece of her china set... more..
