Faceless People

There are people

and they're waiting in my dreams.

They're faceless people

but they go to great extremes

to communicate

and to reveal

all of the secrets that

I wish they would conceal.

These faceless people,

well they hardly talk at all.

Instead they stand aside

as I march down the hall.

But then that march,

it crumbles into a crawl

and before long

I'm crumbled up in a ball.

If they had faces,

then maybe we'd be friends.

But these people will

haunt my night times to no end.

These faceless freaks,

they don't like to hear my voice. 

So they scream and shout

and frantically rejoice.

What are they cheering?

Not one will let me know. 

When I ask them,

they all start to loudly crow.

But in their eyes, 

I see a ghastly, evil grin.

I watch the sunset,

dreading for nighttime to begin.

They're cheering something.

I think I know what it might be.

And as they scream,

I wish that they would set me free.

Dante, A very nice characterization of all those "people" we see in our dreams, their lack of faces ready for the dreamer to mold into whatever useful image it may wish (and some NOT so useful). Until I read this I never really gave a lot of thought to the people in my dreams being faceless, waiting for me to affix whatever mask fits the dreamscape.
