The Little Girl and the Ferocious Beast

The Little Girl and the Ferocious Beast

A Poem by DeLisa

There’s a monster

Who lives here

Dark, lurking

Eyes slanted, lids lowered

Slightly, glinting

The creature growls

And stalks menacingly

People are horrified

And fearful

For their lives

They run

And seek

Shelter

But they can’t hide

There is no camouflage

To protect you

From the beast

Once fear

Has been

Sensed

DOOM

Is the only

Description

For the

Terror

That ensues

The monster

Bares its fangs

A growl builds

Low in its belly

The beast lies

Flat

Concealed like

A chameleon

Among the

Scattering thoughts

Of panic and chaos

The beast

Was born to panic

And chaos

Mayhem

Destruction

So the cries

Begging, pleading

Only arouse in the beast

A burning desire

For

Blood

The skin on the nape of the beast’s

Neck prickles

The hair covering the beast’s

Body stands on end

The beast’s ears lie

Flat

On its skull

Snarling

Bared fangs

Saliva dripping from its mouth

The beast

Pounces

On the first victim

Guilt

Innocence

Does not matter

The closer you are

To the beast

When it feels the

Urge to feed

To attack

To ravage

DOOM

The beast

Rips out

Heart

Lungs

Small intestine

Large intestine

Spleen, kidneys, bladder

Chased down

By warm, sticky blood

That was once the sustenance

Of life

Neck

Snapped

Limbs

Buried

Torso

Empty, burned

Victim after victim

Lives are taken

Souls stolen

By the savage

That is

So familiar

For the beast is none other

Than

Me.
