A Shared Path

A Shared Path

A Poem by devon

Red bowties and button up shirts met
Unkempt curls and travel brochures
At a crossroads somewhere
Between what may have been fate and lighting
His first and her sixty-third cigarette.

Searching danced with Wandering,
Swaying to and fro between
The separate winding roads that destiny had
Paved for each eons before they were scheduled
To meet and, then, depart.

The two were not perpendicular lines
On some arithmetic page
Who intersect only to never meet again, however.
They were lovers by chance,
Lovers who chose to choose their own fate.

So at the crossroads between where
Each was meant to be going and their
Predestined meet, they cut down a little passageway
That kissed the soles of their feet with snow
Fallen from heavens that once mapped their destinies.

Oh, wow, I don't know if it's quite appropriate to relate someone's poetry to my life, but I can't help but notice that this is something I imagine my 'love life' to be someday, someday when I get to travel. From the travel brochures and the cigarettes, to destiny, I loved this poem. I love your use of language and hope to read something new soon. Merry Christmas.

A very good tale. I like a journey with two people and cigarettes. Good description allowed me to follow along the path with the characters in the poem. I like the strong ending to the excellent poem.
