The Hardest Part Is The Night

The Hardest Part Is The Night

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

As the sun runs away

From another day

Leaving the sky's soul black

The time I dread is here

For it is a portal to

The lonely side of my soul.

Where stars remind me

There is too much distance

Between me and you…

And moonbeams accentuate

The shadows that

Play tag with my heart.

Teasing it with hidden

Thoughts beneath

Their cold smoke and mirror

Existence to my lonesome reality

Whose bite is far worse

Then the bark killing the silence.

Yet no matter how isolated

The witching hour

Bestows upon my incomplete heart

I will ride out

My time in purgatory

Even if it means dying alone.

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

When the clock strikes midnight

I’d rather play

Solitaire with my soul

Cause I can’t be with someone

Just to be there

Even though…

The hardest part is the night.

WOW!! your poetry really amazes me,, I absolutley enjoy reading what
you write,, it's so clear to the eyes, and written with such passion,
you have a great talent and I love your style of writing, two parts are
my favorites:

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

and.........

Cause I can't be with someone

Just to be there

I love it!! you just wont take anyone to just to have someone, the intelect and
stimulation of the mind that meshes with yours is essential!! great work!!

dale, you outdid yourself in this one! it's fantastic! you really got that pen and poured out your soul on the paper with this. I can see you in a room, the night sky and stars peering at you through the window, a haze of creativity swirling above your head. you are a sweet soul, and you are not the kind of man who is shallow or a user etc. since i've known you, you have a heart of gold, and you are emotinoal, and you pour them out in all your poetry. thanks for sharing!!!

This is just great! The feel and substance of this poem is like the beat of a lonely heart. Wow - just like the way you hit on all the feelings of that kind of time and space at the end of the day and before sleep when you take stock of the day.... I know this feeling, this existence and you sure captured it here. I like the decision that as lonely as this might feel - you want something REAL..... now, what that is? Answer me that..... I guess you know it when you know it..... This makes ya think..... that is good.

What is it about about night and the midnight hour that won't let our souls rest? The night is truly a two sided coin of love and loneliness. I love the way you use natural images to mirror your feelings moving back and forth between the two the darkness of night the emptiness you feel.

This is a very moving, very touching poem. Your talent continues to grow as you discover new paths of expression.

This is hauntingly beautiful Dale. It's like many thoughts, many visions I have in my mind from time to time. In fact, I see near the same thing in my head when I read this, as I did when I wrote "The Longing".....what a beautiful connection. Lovely, truly.

very haunting, dark, vivid. you've described perfectly that overwhelming feeling of being lonely, not just alone. sometimes, alone is good. lonely never is. i really like this stanza:
"For I could never just be
With a nameless face
That has no mind of their own
Or a heart of stone
Just for the pleasure" yes one night stands or flings are easy but can never really cure loneliness. a lot of amazing imagery here too. deeply sad, but great write.
Of having someone to hold.

You write with deep passion and emotion....as most great poets do! You very effectively sum up feels with such descriptive words to explain what could take some of us sentences and/or paragraphs to get across. It is hard to pick a few favorite lines because it is all so wonderful.
