Hollowed Be Thy Life

Hollowed Be Thy Life

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

The moss-covered tombstone exclaimed

with a foggy accent,

“Here lies a man full of regret but feeling no pain”

as the shadow finds peace

resting on his sacred ground.

For the flesh is still pounding the pavement

while the heart still tries to move the earth.

When the soul becomes an instigator

for the damned

the spirit reluctantly becomes

a willing accomplice.

Surreal is the afterlife

when life is still all to real.

Every breath without exhale,

       every heartbeat without flow,

              every moment like sand

       giving the hourglass purpose.

These are the sacrifices made

when death accompanies re-birth.

This is very powerful. It sounds like a poem about the tortured dead, someone who died with regrets and is too restless to stay in the earth, perhaps that is the re-birth part, he is born again to grow up and finish the business he left undone in his last life. That's what your poem spoke to me and I must say, I really do like this write of yours.

Very intense write, my friend. I wonder what inspired it.

Yes, consciousness lives on; energies never die!
Great work... love this emerging theme of late from all fellow poets.... Halloween's just around the corner... I'm in the mood! Give me more... keep me intrigued!

Amazing write, this really captivated me, this poem has a very darkside, to me it shows that even after you die your regrets or wrong doing will haunt you.

Wonderful write. Makes you really think about the whole cycle. Also, the walking dead and the dead, yet alive. Nice twist.

The living dead. So many. Too many. It's what happens when we don't do a little contemplating from time to time. Wonderful symbolism. Great piece. Very foreboding feel.

I love the play on words in the title. :) And the first line on the tombstone is the one least likely to be on mine.
