Dancing With Writer's Block

Dancing With Writer's Block

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

D ancing with writer's block

A waltz now and then

N o words

C ome to me as my mind becomes blank

I t's like trying to penetrate a brick wall

N eed a vacation to remedy this situation

G entle strokes of my pen begin to scribble in syllables and sounds

W atching the clock on my desk as I wrestle with ideas in my head

I  feel as though I will never write again as I sit here in my easy chair

T alking to myself wondering why it seems so important to me

H oping to find my voice from within as I listen to the stillness around me

W riter's block makes me feel like I am literally suffocating

R ealizing this I search for a magic key-word to unlock the mystery

I t comes in the form of an acrostic artistry as I write this poem

T hus, a new creation of words are formed as I wholeheartedly try

E xplaining to you my dear reader what writer's block is like to me

R eleasing the frustrations of a poet who has lost contact with words

's eems to be quite absurd

B reaking the ice so to speak is what one must do

L eaving me at my wits end as I so desperately search the abyss

O f mine own creativity with

C ountless hours spent dancing with writer's block

K eeping in mind that this too shall pass

We all have experienced writer's block sometime, someone saying the opposite is probably because he/she faces it the most. Nicely written here, I enjoyed the imagery used in this ... "acrostic" is it in english? Great job by writing this down, real life experiences lets the reader connect even deeper with the artist's works. Excellent!

Cool...sometimes an acrostic or haiku style poem will help me over the hump. Why indeed do we feel so frustrated when our words dam up? I have wondered will I ever write again. Kudos

This reader thinks you've finished your dance with writer's block through this piece. Awesome. Very, very nice. :)

You certainly didn't have it while writing this... I know this feeling as we all encounter it now and then... very nicely done.

Soooo clever, and very much appreciated. It amazes me that you can use acrostic dictates yet produce such elegant writing!

Some fine phrases too: 'G entle strokes of my pen begin to scribble in syllables and sounds' and ''s eems to be quite absurd - now that's clever-sneaky!

Thank you very much for sharing.

(Sorreee, the rating thingy slipped so I appear to have given far less than intended. )

Now, I wouldn't mind dancing with this kind of writer's block!! Very creative way to approach a lull in creativity.........

More fun with acrostics!

It's a good idea, and game approaches in general are a good way to jog imagination. Even serious literature in the modernist and postmodernist tradition use hidden games for leverage. Joyce's Ulysses internalized Homer into a single day, and relied heavily on the lay-out of the city of Dublin -- two gamer templates.

I'm fond of the frequently uncanny results of playing around with anagrams. On one occasion, I even determined an installment title by anagramming the previous one.

Anyway, you're good with acrostics, and it was an amusing read to see you address the writer's block issue directly in this manner.

Good work.

For having writer's block, this is mighty creative... I don't think your muses were blocked at all... Just taking a siesta.. and quietly weaving words for you to ink as you did with this acrostic.
Wonderfully done! :)
