Old Friends, Book Ends

Old Friends, Book Ends

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Old friends, bookends

Been a long time

Since we hung around together

Many years have gone by

As we went our separate ways

Life gets busy sometimes

Things get in the way

We get caught up in our own lives

Memories we made

Some made us laugh

Some made us cry

Old friends, book ends

I remember a time

We thought we'd always be

The best of friends

Sad to say it doesn't always

Turn out the way we planned

Before you know it

The years pass us by

As we become

Just a memory now and then

Old friends, book ends

I really like this one
I can feel the emotion you put into it
I can also see truth in this as well.
Very well written

Life does get in the way, the years roll on and when we come to, if we are lucky, we do have the memories of a well spent life and friends, bookends to bracket our life. Nice sentiment, well doen.

"Old friends...
Old friends...
Set on the park bench, like book ends..."

Any chance you might have been listening to Simon and Garfunkle in the last day or two?
Whether so, or not, this is a touching, wistful look back at a commodity so hard to find in today's world: true enduring friendship. So many interact on such a superficial level, texting non-words to un-people, that real bonding never sets roots in their hearts. The world is truly lessened by all this technological "Ease".

A lot of truth in your poem. We all have friends that we regret losing touch with or don't have time for. Keep up the good work....Lee
