        or a teenaged little tease
        Whatever her incarnation
        Men drop to their knees

     She's passion's burning desire
       What she was born to be
       She's all you ever wanted
          in all your fantasies

    She drives you completely crazy
     With maddening doubt and lust
     She told you that she loved you
   Words you know that you can't trust

    She's a heartbreaking little hussy
     She's a two timing little w***e
   You're hopelessly in love with her
        So you go back for more

         Fidelity is impossible
        She's easily entranced
      Caught up in the moment
   of her next whirlwind romance

    With incarnations everywhere
       From Pageantry to porn
      Worshiped and exploited
       In all her different forms

        Marginalized and vilified
    Branded Hooker Harlot W***e
     She's not going anywhere
She's been down that road before

       She can be impossible
    But I'm always so forgiving
     If she wasn't in this world
    Life wouldn't be worth living

       Praise be to Aphrodite
       Goddess like no other
   She and I were meant to be
    and I will always love her

Author's Note

In the old Tales Aries (Mars) and Aphrodite were long time lovers. As archetypes both are physical, emotionally intense, sexually driven, here and now oriented types that are drawn to each other. My X wife, my X girl friend Felicia and my little fuck buddy Jade all had heavy Aphrodite traits. All three of them had a knack for driving guys crazy and in their own unique ways got to me like no other chicks I've been with could. That's why this poem has a more personal tone than Mars or Hermes did. Aphrodite represents the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows in my sordid love life.
Aphrodite as the Madonna whore is about our cultural fascination/ rejection of her. Everyone loves Marilyn Monroe as the naive sex kitten but Madonna as the Aggressive Cougar Temptress drew a lot of fire from critics. So has Miley Cyrus for coming of age as a vibrant, sexually expressive woman from the child star Hanna Montana. All three women express Aphrodite in their own unique ways. Aphrodite is always going to stir controversy when she manifests because of the cultural assumption that good girls don't act like her. What parent would ever say "I want my daughter to grow up to be Aphrodite?" A daughter like Athena or Diana parents would love and be proud of but Aphrodite? Not likely. The Goddess of love and beauty. We love her, we hate her, we want her, we exploit her, we worship her, we're terrified of her. But no matter what we do to her, she keeps coming back because in a way more than any other Goddess or God, we need her.

First off Aphrodite and Athena are my two favorite Greek Goddess, I'm actually going to get a symbolism tattoo of them both. I believe every girl has a little Aphrodite in her whether she wants to admit it or not...I have no problem in doing so. You captured the part of her that makes her popular. I can tell that this poem had some more personal qualities to it. But I really enjoyed this poem. I really hope you write other poems on the Greek Gods. They really fascinate me.

The three women I mention in the author's note with strong Aphrodite traits had underlying Persephone stories that they were acting out. They're what I call "Horror Story Girls." Girls with nightmare victim stories buried in they're adolescence that are effecting virtually everything she does and every relationship she gets into.

the story of Aphrodite (Venus) and Ares (Mars) always facinated me, so did the rest of the Greek /Roman Mythology though different in a great way, loved the poem, says a great deal about human suffering, mankind suffering XD not all girls like Aphrodite though, some of us are like Athens XD

When a guy has multiple partners he's a player. When a chick does it she's a s**t. That's a total bull s**t cultural double standard. So is the concept of feminine virtue of purity. It stems from Monotheism's fear of the body, fear of the feminine and the idea that the act of sex is a sin.

They should legalize prostitution, if you think about it, why the hell is it illegal? Not saying that every women who enjoys having sex should just be a prostitute, but it seems archaic that we have this stigma against it. The oldest profession in the world, I think we should have some semblence of respect for it. I've always had an aversion to religion, even when I was too young to understand why.

Opponents to a legalization move would point to drug addiction, violence against women, sex trafficing STD's and the morality issue surrounding the profession, all of which is true but legal or not it wouldn't change anything. There's always going to be working girls and there's always going to be lonely, horny guys that go to them. That's why it's legal in countries those legal systems are less prone to legislating morality. Our system's kind of stupid like that.

Obviously there would be some sort of legal control over how legal prostitution would be run and sex trafficing etc, like you said, is inevitable either way. You ever watch Cat House on HBO?

I don't know if they lack in morality so much as they do intolerance of human nature. Human beings are full of fatal weaknesses and legislating weakness seems more an exercise in ignorance than it does laws that make for a better civilization for the greater good. Perhaps if we didn't suppress our nature, we wouldn't be so angry all the time. And Cat House is the name of a show about a legal 'pleasure house' in Las Vegas. It looks fun.
For some, if their personal nature is suppressed, they become self destructive and ruin relationships with people that they care about. It's sad when that happens, but jealousy and possession are strong aspects of human nature.
