The Child Inside

The Child Inside

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

Baby Ricochet is having one of his moments of sanity again

"
At heart I'm just a simple man
with a loving child inside
With everything I've seen and done
Somehow he stayed alive

For that much i am grateful
A child can feel life's joy
In the simplest of moments
The world as one big toy

Flirting with a lovely girl
Watching the butterflies
Intellects can mock and scoff
Cause they don't get why

Because it's stupid simple
There's nothing to ponder on
The joy of life is in the moment
and the moment is always gone

We struggle and we live in pain
We blame everyone who took part
But in the end it doesn't matter
Only you can mend your heart

A task so monumental
No grownup could survive
It's not for us to even start
It's for your child inside

Author's Note

Baby Ricochet
Every so often I have these kind of insights. If I had any sense in my head I'd do something to encourage them to grow. I gotta admit though I get the biggest charge out of the simplest things. That's got a lot to do with me maintaining my sanity.

Very very good! A bit different from your normal genre of death and destruction! (Just kidding with ya)

I know some writers don't like their work critiqued, but I thought the last line needed an extra word... "It's for your child (that lives) inside.

or

It's for your child-like innocence
the purity that lives inside.

Just a thought, nothing more.

Absolutely loved it. We all should let that child out more often. Thanks for reminding us in such a genuine and well-put way.

Look at you waxing all philosophical, our Baby is growing up....let's face it we all have a kid inside that needs to be nurtured, good reminder Mark.

That hit me really hard. We're quick to point fingers but we rarely want to buy the bandaids.

Well he's being a bad child isn't he. Naughty, naughty...
I love this poem it is beautifully written. And it is such a great read. Often times we forget that we should treat ourselves like kids. Like if you would put a cig in a child's mouth, you should care for yourself as much as you would a kid.

i don't think i have seen anything quite so profound and logical in a long time. not only is this a flawless rhyme scheme and perfect meter, but it holds a valuable lesson for all who would embrace the rigors and pitfalls and joys of a lifetime within. this is excellent, ricochet!

This is so true, Ric. There are so many instances I can recall where kids cope with problems so much betterr than adults and appreciate the smallest of pleasures that will pass their elders by. You cracked it with this one, mate. P.

I should take a page from your book and nurture the child inside...my only problem is, my inner child is a spoiled rotten little brat who tries to get her way by having a tantrum on the grocery store floor ;-)

This is an exceptional piece, Baby...
