Minor Adjustments

Minor Adjustments

A Poem by demureminds

Seduced in shame,

I was senseless,

helpless.

They sentenced me

four years

waist deep drenched

in tears

Left me

lusting for freedom,

by day

aching for a confidant,

someone to stay,

with me

They lined like

an army of ants,

each day,

their faces,

peer at me,

laughing,

insulting.

The others

whispered

silently

in their minds,

but I could

still hear

their eyes.

One day,

I became

consumed

in perfection;

to be flawless,

etched

in my mind.

Exhausted,

I strolled out,

contempt

invaded my lungs.

But I never wanted to be this way.

So many subtle judgements that others think go unnoticed.
Way to capture that!
I really liked your style to this poem! It flowed neatly, and I could literally feel the pain the person is feeling! The words are powerful, and you timed the verses perfectly for emphasis. Great piece!
