Golden Finale

Golden Finale

A Poem by demureminds

Choice,

they assure me,

I have,

I had.

I consume myself,

disassembling

fragments

of my

younger

original.

Wanderlust,

I found her

sifting through

infinite dust,

to find

me.

And we,

see

there was never this

preposterous

idyllic

choice

they said

they’d

allow.

But secretly,

they tied

us

with twine,

swiveling,

weaving,

leading

us

to our golden

finale.

They tempted

us,

enabled

trickery,

and we

followed

unquestioning.

And in the end,

we learned

we never had a choice

at all.
