streetlights

streetlights

A Poem by diaphanous

She never dreamed of going home again
after all the years she spent far away
nothing felt right, nothing felt the same
on her empty, drawn out journey

She knew it was time to decide
to stay or go
leave the doubt inside
and regret the unknown

but a smile flickered
as her heart beat faster
she accepted it with one word
and slid down the banister

throwing open the front door
letting down the wall
she only had one hour
before she'd lose or win it all

They wanted her to lose,
to return to them forever
but she refused to let them choose
a different future for her

With the passing streetlights a reminder
of the home she left behind her
she faced the night with a soft grin
as each step she took brought her closer to him
