Colors

Colors

A Poem by Audrey Howitt

My flowers are beautiful, technique mixte, 2003 par Jean-Philippe Carpentier

my world is small,

a package no bigger than

a shoebox,

tightly wrapped

in the tones of grey paint.

i would rather,

a pale peach

or sea foam.

and so color swatches

hang on my refrigerator

suspended by brightly colored

button magnets.

i shuffle them

according to my mood.

today I have noticed how well

sea foam and pale lavender

look together--

the flower and the stalk--

so soothing.

and so, my magnets have arranged

themselves

accordingly.

but I am already eyeing

a pale peach and cream combo.

how does one decide

on the colors

to wrap oneself up in?

perhaps my magnets will decide for me.

paint by default.

one thing is certain,

there are no swatches of grey.

A brilliant poem! I love this. Colors so do reflect our feelings, moods and personalities and perhaps we are not always aware of it. I like the ending, grey
isn't a color one wants to pick by choice alone. I enjoyed your very creative
and skillfully done poem.

This is a fine poem, reminded me from its style of Imagist poetry, maybe the short lines and the tempo or the well observed imagery, good write.

Laughing because your words make for happiness, both yours and this reader! What would both our personal and public worlds be without colour! They reflect our moods, they improve our moods, they hug and dance us hour to hour .. and your poem says so with amazing accuracy and beauty.

'how does one decide on the colors to wrap oneself up in?' Those magnets have much to answer for!

Many thank yous for sharing, Audrey.

Oh nice!
No grey to under nourish the vitality and vibrancy of this!
Wonderful love...so calming and descriptive, I can see this with clarity, gorgeous xoxo

Lyrical splashes of color therapy; vibrant shades conjured to, hopefully, take the vibration to a higher level. Attempting to verbally harmonize one's way to a pleasant place--rather than merely staying down and reflecting the blah.
Who can blame you, Audrey?

the theme of this caught my interest and imagination. Your fridge...doubles as a mood ring? What color are you today? It appears there is little grey...well that's much more than what some of us can brag about. Bravo to creative penning!
