a mental ward love story

a mental ward love story

A Poem by dontdigonswine

We have to search for
the dream that will wake us
the nerve that will shake us
from the inside out.

----

I don't remember how sunlight feels against my skin.
Do you think we ever will?
There's nothing I wouldn't do
for one moment's time;
to swallow a glimpse of the horizon
down with the morning pills.

They have us
They give us only so much
Air
Squealing lungs - can you hear us?
We ache.
we can't be,
we could be--
Limtless.

but they tie us down.
they tie us in.
here, we dream what they want us to
dream what they want
we become who they want us to
we try to adapt
they redesign our DNA
into the blankest of smiles
until we become them.

they try to reinvent us
"human being"
open wide and say ahh
diagnose our flaws
iron out an imperfect mind
we're losing ground
this is for a just cause

we can't compete with our own creation
the machines
we are becoming obsolete

here,
we only know how to feed
the fetishistic dream
with our resigning resistance
a fading whimper
too afraid to stay awake

I will only be satisfied when they scream
throats burning
"WE WERE TOO LOGICAL
LOVE CAN DESTROY THE MACHINE
LOVE IS THE TERMINAL ILLNESS
A VIRUS, IMMORTAL
IT ALL ENDS WITH LOVE."

even if we started now
there's no place to escape to.

then she told me
she wouldn't mind it if
the last sensation she felt
before the never-ending sleep
was to jump off the deep end.
