I'm Not There Yet

I'm Not There Yet

A Poem by Valerie Cwiekowski

saturday night
shouldn't be like this
holding you close
while you scream
'cos the world owes you everything

fading fast
trying to hold you
even though there's not a
part of you  that's left
that i can recognize

don't want to believe,
hold the world inside
and breath deep,
inhale a cigarette
this time of year ain't gonna
be kind enough
to let you pull yourself through

put me on a one-way ticket
through the end of october
let's skip november
and her heartache, too

give me a chance
for a new year's eve
that holds up midnight's camera rays
of what they told us
we needed to believe in
if we'd ever want to be someone

didn't anyone ever tell you
everything's not lost
it just doesn't want to be found
shining behind
lullaby suicides
of what we wanted to be
