come back home

come back home

A Poem by Valerie Cwiekowski

saturday night left undone

front door's locked

crack the kitchen window and

watch her clock falls past 3 am

this love's traveled

round run-down tracks

sprinkled with graffitti

of who we thought

we'd always live to be

sunrise

morning's coming

don't you like the way the world turns

hate the way your feelings change

you can't outrun

unfinished loves that's nearly bright enough to

follow streetlights that give way to sunlight

it's almost 6:43 in the morning

everyone's buried under

mock avalanches

of failed heartaches

lies we badly need to believe

you're here at the right time

long enough to lend a passing thought

to last night's early morning kiss

when you disappeared from my life
