20 reasons

20 reasons

A Poem by h d e rushin

I wish to come up with twenty reasons to love someone.

twenty of anything, I imagine, is alot.

twenty knocks on a door.

twenty calls to the cosmic room,

twenty caterpillars taking their sweet time.

twenty tilts of the vase in the yard discarding breathless lilies.

twenty instruments playing,

twenty times to write your name,

twenty times, at metric intervals, to repeat it,

twenty moons  contrasted to your pink sweater,

twenty gardens wilting

twenty ways to look at the clock;

twentyone times to turn it backwards,

twenty rooms to inverse your face in/

twenty indelible features.

twenty moles on your back,

two malignant.

twenty liver sausage sandwiches,

twenty Rolaid tabs.

twenty rivers,

twenty tercet waves,

twenty officious poems

twenty large rocks to sit on,

twenty ways to drown,

one good reason to.

twenty heavens,

twenty resurections,

twenty ways to sanctification.

I have named far more than twenty reasons

I won't think of any others.

How original! I loved the "twenty tilts of the vase in the yard discarding breathless lilies" line, that was superb. This is a very unique take on repetition, I enjoyed the thoughtful reason behind it and the quick witted pace you use to express all the twenty somethings that your impressionable mind conjures up. Very nicely done!
