A Poem by h d e rushin
"

for joanne,

"

Everytime I dream in my bare feet,

the tsi tzit shapes my knee like the

letter U, and the tassels and wooden

disc I have saved just for this moment,

to distend my lips to unusual dimensions,

yes,

the same ones I had sworn off years ago as just

a trick with ceremony, is,

as I hoped, purest freedom

spotted with shadows.

When we danced after wine

at your sisters funeral and

the oval of eye and tear, I

admit I couldn't hold you long enough,

tight enough until your air

was cut off like that close shrug.

And those jeans made like a castle

in the air,

boom-shagalaga,

and there I was with you; love

had infested me with those

filarial worms of the

blackfly. Imagine that,

a blind gorilla in my silver back

nightgown. Kafkaesque

like a corset of

borealis.

A remarkable write, Dana. Powerful recollection, and the imagery is off the chart beautiful. And sad. Very sad. But poetry that brings to life memory especially the way you have here, does that to me.
