the swim through the Deluge

the swim through the Deluge

A Poem by Eligijus

before many years

when Jesus counted

days until deluge

I swam out from

my mother‘s womb

I was pretty child

I had big eyes

thank heavens that I couldn‘t see

of course I had hands

I grasped fear‘s

whiff

in mother‘s breathing

I had legs

but I didn‘t run

the bridge fell down

colums couldn't hold it

we had to swim

where were colder

we never come back

- Don‘t pour my birth, Sky

  I don‘t believe in you

in the middle of October

mother smiled at me from

the deep.

As one who loves biblical imagery, this was a feast for me. I love all the tie ins you pull off here, messiah, flood, creation, baptism. This is a wonderful poem with a hint of whimsy. I love the ending, mother smiled at me from the deep.
