History's Message

History's Message

A Poem by Dusty
"

One thing to remember about earth, we are not on a rent-to-own lease. Our payments are getting later and later, and eventually, unless we manage the costs better, we will be evicted.

"

Nothing is immortal

Names will soon fade into the dust

Metal structures will drown in rust

Stone monuments will be blown into sand

Even mountains do not eternally stand

Changeling children will forget our faces

In time earth will forget all races

The material beings we pride our lives on

Will be swallowed into the ground before long

The sky will be freed of its polluted clouds

Bubbling brooks free of their supressing dams

The trees growing free of the threat of human hands

Not far after we are gone

The earth will reclaim its forgotten throne

Enclosing our tomb to filter out the old

The oceans will wash our prints from the sand

And the wind will blow away anything made by our hand

This is the story that History teaches

For if it is trying to tell us anything at all

Nothing ever eternally stands above a fall
