What am I to do?

What am I to do?

A Poem by eMckenzie

You tell me to get over you,

You say to do it now.

But I don’t think you understand

I really don’t know how.

You tell me,

“Throw your feelings to the wind!”

I ask you ma’am,

“Where do I begin?”

How does one just drop a feeling?

And send it on its way?

Is there a secret formula

To make them go today?

A mind just can’t forget a thing,

Especially a thing like you.

So I ask a question, and listen well,

What am I to do?

You have a lovely pace and it clearly is a personal poem (which I can sympathise with as I have recently lost several loved ones - a break up and a family death) and your rhyme scheme works well.
It is, however, very telling and abstract/vague.
We all understand these feelings, and I think the dialogue you have incorporated works very well.
Maybe to improve it, use more concrete detail, describe objects and places that give off a sad, unloved atmosphere that we can relate to. Maybe items that the loved one has left behind, etc. Or the places they used to go together.
I do like the use of questions but they feel slightly overused for such a short piece.
(Personally I like abstract pieces more, so I really like this piece, but alas most people are against abstract telling pieces)
