a sexual discovery

a sexual discovery

A Poem by eglantine

I fractured the moon and drank
its secret milk the night
I first saw my naked self
in my mother's full-length mirror:

        pale and dark-eyed,
        whispered light,
        white pinpoint pupil,
        tethered and star-bright.

Ribs are for counting,
a spine for arching
and lips for peeling
my name from your tongue.

this piece hit me like a little piece of mint on my tongue! all of the senses are beautifully awakened in this one moment of powerful and almost haunting realization. the woman body is in fact a powerful thing.

the ending leaves a beautiful longing and hunger for exploration. great work!

Now that is what I call a coming of age poem.

haha, yes. Thanks for reading!
Marvelous! How different this seems to me, from your other work (which you know I admire greatly) - This made me feel young again - well, younger - the cute jar-like rhythm, which is what I read it with, fits perfectly with the physical. Thank you my friend, for this wonderful, enlightening poem.

I really loved how introspective this piece was when referring to the female speaker, and how one goes on to have a sense of self realization. I also loved your symbolism--as usual-- to mediate on this idea with the moon and the mother. Great job :)

Thank you as always Cord!
I'm not much of a poetry person but I don't think one needs to be to see the talent here. Beautifully penned, stunning imagery.

Well done indeed :)

beautiful...there is a very feminist charge here...the link between milk and mother is very revealing,it brings a connection between sex for procreation and sex for stimulus...the moon being the natural draw for all women...it is also quitely innocent, it sighs under its breath and tries to make sense of itself. gorgeous as ever.

Thank you Leslie!
awakened, indeed.

i like how you took communion from the moon in some half-light bathed ritual...the last stanza, it goes without saying, is perfect....
