Wait

Wait

A Poem by Emily Cunningham

‘Wait’, they say.

‘Hang on a little longer,

It’s only your time you’re wasting.’

Yeah, because we've got so much of that.

‘Study hard’. What was

All that about a

Trumpet?

I try to remember so that I can

Try to forget.

You can kiss my shoulder,

Tell me you love me,

That you ‘don’t want anybody

else’. Tell me

I’m the ‘most beautiful girl at all the parties’.

I won’t go home with you.

But I do.

So I’ll have another drink,

Take another pill.

Maybe I’ll write something

Pretty tonight.

But f**k you.

I won’t go home with you.

I won’t wait for you.
