What Makes A Man

What Makes A Man

A Poem by Emily Cunningham
"

Travelling again.

"

Dallas Green said it best.

The question is deep and

the answer is darkness.

A never ending pit of

night.

Of loneliness.

Of the empty, lost feeling you get

When your soul is exposed.

Bare.

Grazed.

I live in this darkness.

Love in this darkness.

I’m left in it holding nothing

but a pile of books and a longing

for Rhyd y Nant.

Bandaging the grazes.

The medicine stings my cuts.

My mind.

My lungs.

Recycled dates and gifts.

Wasted days and memories that leave bruises.

More grazes.
