Overwrought

Overwrought

A Poem by Emily Robinson

A strained conversation
Eyes darting, we are never face to face
Wishing we could find a common ground
A place to rest beneath, A shadow of wings

A cold frustration
Darkness sitting behind your eyes, so many lies
Wishing you knew just how to say, the reason for the hope that you used to have
You seek a place to hide behind, a shadow of ugly things

Chorus:
This is what you will never obtain
This is who you could never be
As long as you deny the suffering
And claim that you can see

A strained conversation
Interrupting my every word of hope
Shooting with arrows at the love of a God you once knew
And softly falling back, clutching to your hatred and your youth

Now these cold moments with you
are like breathing in death to me
When I'm immersed in hope, you're drenched in black
Yet we used to be the same color, and we were closely bound by being free.
