Lamentations

Lamentations

A Poem by emipoemi

Spring rises out of hibernation,
Breezing through the budding life,
And though the world now richly shines
To stifle Winter’s strife,

Without the hearth to warm the heart,
Without the light to cheer the soul,
The cold had rendered chipped and chafed
A life once bright, once whole;

Alone in mournful melancholy,
Wishing time would timely mend
The ties of care, the links of love,
The bonds 'twixt those called friend.

I wander through the sunlit streets,
A windswept wisp the world forgot-
Spring rises with a lively spring,
Though I in turn spring not.

Nicely written, strong imagery and the loneliness comes through to the reader.

Well done

As the world dies around us, only then do we realize it is by our hands. Great poem, huge impact. Thanks for sharing.

The sorrow and perhaps regret in this is truly felt.
Some marvellous lines throughout lend to slow decline in hope and optimism.
Perhaps despair.
The depths of despair as Anne Shirley liked to say...

Thank you! This really came from the heart. Glad you enjoyed it.
Gentle and calm yet wholly tragic as I realised that the slow flowing rhythm resembled that of a soul that had given up, was labouring in it's movements. So much about this poem is lovely but what stands out to me is your effortless and effective use of alliteration throughout.
Oh and I really like the split in halve stanzas
A life once bright, once whole
and
The ties of care, the links of love
I just really like the elaborating images and I think it reads very nice like that, something I will remember as often I opt for the shorter lines

What a beautiful poem. Much like Hannah, the last stanza is my favorite, which based on your reply to her, you aren't surprised! :)

"A windswept wisp the world forgot-"

That may be the most beautiful, sad line I've read on here and my favorite. I was so moved by it.

This is poetry.

Hope your today is better than your yesterdays

I love the narrative.

In the first paragraph, the description of the coming of spring is beautiful. I love the line "breezing through the budding life".

I really enjoy the sound of the second paragraph especially "without the hearth to warm the heart".

The third paragraph has a sad but beautiful sentiment. "Wishing time would timely mend" is my favorite line in this paragraph. It makes me think of a longing for the cliche "time will heal" to be true.

I like the line "A windswept wisp the world forgot-" in the fourth paragraph. I like the sound of it, and I also like imagery.

The last line was probably my favorite in the whole poem. "Though I in turn spring not." It drives the whole point home very well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. The sentiment comes through beautifully.
