![]() I Cut A Hole in Time’s PocketA Poem by Lyall28![]() A poem written about a lazy morning spent outside in the sun when I should have been working inside at my desk.![]()
Today, I discovered a cheat-code.
Cut a hole in Time’s pocket And stole the minutes and seconds that fell out. Let my laptop go and stepped outside Of Time. Sun soaks into my bones, Kneads its heat into my skin. Cheek pressed to shoulder, Inhale. More lizard than human, I sit sunflower-style. Limbs lie heavy And thoughts laze swollen. Birdsong and barbecues, Planes and playtime, Reminders that Time trickles on Around and without me. Sensing my disobedience, Time makes itself known In shouts and shadow. My pocket of light untouched by shade. For now only. I savour my secret. Tasting fragility, Impossibility. A lie. There’s a knack to it, you see. A shift of perspective, A trick of the light. Tell your mind to go left where the map says go right Choose to hear true when everyone hears false. In this game of sleight of mind You are mark, Audience, And con artist. It is not new, To cheat. To think we can cheat Time, We can take, give, lose, gain, spend, waste, invest And borrow it. But to stop it? Like Canute before me, I am helpless before its Tide. My cheat code has an expiry date. My crystalline calm cracks And real life must Break upon my shore, Once more. © 2020 Lyall28Author's Note
