Self-containment

Self-containment

A Poem by emme33
"

Is anyone able to be completely self-contained?

"

What is this,

this sense of being self-contained?

It is purity and pride,

it is a woman bearing herself to the world, raw,

remaining wholesome within the boundary of society.

Not self-centered, not self-indulgent.

It is a woman reminding herself to stay sovereign,

in her apartment, in the night, as she waits for his call,

too close to credence.

It is a woman,

finding out why they leave, why they constantly go,

why her indifference is not as attractive as she thought.

For her faith in others no longer prevails,

and her dependency has been extinguished.

If not able to believe on others, she is nothing,

She cannot display a sense of reliance,

And she isn’t self-contained.

Wonderfully captured. For all we think we are doing the right thing, there is someone to tell you how it should be done. You cant please everyone all of the time the saying goes, but the hardest person to please is ourselves.

Beautiful. Maybe you can rely on some, but not in the way you hope. You have good ideas, vision. I think you do awesome work. I stopped relying on others long ago, but I think most rely on themselves.

Can I ask you something? Do you know you are an amazing writer and deserve recognition? Kudos :)
