Who is this stranger?

Who is this stranger?

A Poem by Enthusiast

who is this stranger
standing next to me
this man who cannot raise
his eyes up to meet mine

one can tell he's conflicted
does not know what to say
his hands in his pockets
lips pressed together tight

he is my husband of many years
the man who smiled at me
as I walked down the aisle
in my lush wedding gown

I remember the feeling
of bursting with love
safe in his arms
in total surrender

that was before the lies
the bitter blow of deception
before the harsh words
that shattered my core

now I can't fathom
how it could have ever been
nothing left to say
nothing left to dream
