Define "me"

Define "me"

A Poem by Entrelesnuages

These names that They call us

They[‘re] used to appall us

Repel us, tell us

They know who We are

Brand us, leave us with nothing but scars

Dismiss us, they’ll claim to miss us when we’re gone

They justify thoughts with what “everyone thinks”

But talk enough trash and soon They start to stink

This is a warning to all those who claim after the fact to think

That consonants can’t crack character

And that fiction won’t fight back

It hurts when who I am outweighs what I say

It hurts when hasty assumptions get in my way

But I’m gonna fight for what defines me

Noun adjective verb

They can invent synonyms, They can try to twist my words

But I meant what I said I say what I mean

I pick my words with care It shouldn’t matter that I’m a teen

Don’t pick on me because I have a voice

Call me anything you like but I’ve made my choice

I’m not another b***h from the upper middle class

Not another cynical brat with a fat a*s

Someday you’re gonna have to swallow your foul words

Because I am a writer.  I am poet.

And I intend to be heard.

Very well expressed piece. Love the confidence the flows through the poem and escalates towards the very end. Good luck to you with your writing. I'm sure you'll be a very good writer!
