America, Shine On

America, Shine On

A Poem by Eric Cox

America shines as the land of the free
though we've started down a path of lost liberty
the beauty of this country must continue to shine
freedom must ring and never wither in decline
privacy should be completely, utterly alive
taxes must be fair and health care should thrive
free speech must be allowed to flow like a stream
every citizen should have a chance for the American dream
laws must not overstep America's laws from the Founding Fathers
the Constitution was created in wisdom to protect us from oppressors
Capitalism must continue, the heart of America must shine on
America is unique and the decaying of its beauty must never dawn
freedom of religion should flow and justice abound
good intentions must thrive with our hearts not deep underground
we mustn't let prejudice destroy this great land
we mustn't let corruption taint all that is grand
help this country blossom its beauty
America must shine on, brave and free

I'm glad that you are back and I know Mom is, too! A great poem of the America we, too often, take for granted. I feel so lucky to have been born in such a wonderful and beautiful country. I dream to someday turn on the television or read a newspaper and find that all over the world there is nothing but good news to report!! It is the people who make a country what it is and there are so many wonderful people in America, but we must strive to help and redirect those among us who have trouble living in peace in our society. Criminals and hate groups make our country weak from within and many can be stopped if spotted as children and redirected. Great writing as always, Ghost!

It's nice to read something that speaks of American values and not crazy republican values, my mother is American and this is closer to the America that she holds at heart than the hours of fox news she watches to feel closer to home.

The citizens who love America the Republic will have to fight to keep the country they want. Its well worth the fight. Very nice job on this poem.

A wonderful poem celebrating what America really is and is about. Not something that others who hate what America is are trying to turn this country into. This is a truly patriotic write.

Your words are true. USA is still the best place to live. Many opportunities for any person willing to work hard and get educated. I agree with your strong words in this outstanding poem.
